Find a course
The TISC offers process
A lot of people wonder what happens after they’ve lodged their application with TISC (the Tertiary Institutions Service Centre). Here we outline the process for university offers if you’ve applied through TISC.
END OF DECEMBER: ATAR scores available online
If you sat your WACE exams your results will be available online via TISC from 31 December 2012.
Once you’ve received your ATAR score you can work out your options.
- You can browse Murdoch’s courses by ATAR to figure out all the courses you can get into.
- You can talk to a Murdoch Student Advisor – They’ll be available over the holiday period. You might want to know more about Murdoch’s courses. Or if your ATAR score is lower than you expected they can help you find your path into university.
- You can also arrange to sit the STAT (Special Tertiary Admissions Test) if you failed English. TISC runs the test in January so you can still start in Semester 1. Check out this video where Student Advisor Nazli gives the low down on sitting the STAT.
START OF JANUARY: Change your preferences, or keep them as they are
If you’ve rethought what you’d like to study in Semester 1 you can change your preferences. If you’re happy with your choices then you don’t need to do anything yet!
- You can change either some or all of your preferences via TISC online. Be sure to read our guide to getting your TISC preferences right.
- If you’re still happy with your selections you can leave them as is.
- Remember that TISC preference changes close 4 January 2013.
MID JANUARY: Ensure you’re around, or have someone to help you, during first round offers
First round university offers are released on 17 January 2013. They’ll be sent by post so make sure you’re around to check your mailbox, or give formal authority for someone else to act on your behalf.
- Inform TISC of change of address by 14 January 2013.
- If you won’t be around arrange for someone to check your mail and consider giving written authority to TISC, nominating someone who can discuss your offers with them.
- Offers will be sent via post – You will only get one offer in each round.
- Accept: You can accept your offer if it’s a course you want to study.
- Defer: If you’re happy with your offer but want to take a break before studying you can defer, allowing you to start later.
- Use a safety net: You can try to get another offer in the second round by moving your offer to a lower position through preference changes with TISC, or wait and see whether you get a higher preference in second round.
- Reject: If you’ve completely changed your mind you can change your preferences with TISC for second round offers.
- If you didn’t get an offer: You can consider changing your preferences with TISC and/or wait for second round offers.
Remember that if you don’t do anything your offer will be withdrawn!
END OF JANUARY: Prepare for second round offers if you haven’t accepted or deferred
Second round offers will be made based on places that are still available after first round offers. You might consider changing your preferences for second round to have a better chance at getting in.
- Before you change your preferences for second round get in touch with the university to find out whether there are places available in the courses you’re interested in.
- You might want to talk to a Murdoch Student Advisor about what courses you can get into, or what paths you can take to get into university.
- Change of preferences for second round can be done via TISC online and close on 23 January 2013.
- Second round offers will be released on 4 February 2013.
START OF FEBRUARY: Start your journey to university
If you’ve received an offer, congratulations! Read our blog post explaining how to accept your offer.
Haven’t received an offer through this process? Don’t worry, you can speak to our Student Advisors about finding an alternate pathway into the course you want to study. We’ve also got plenty of tips online about other options for university entry.
- If you’ve recently finished high school check out our blog post Breaking up with your ATAR and finding a new pathway into uni. We discuss all the options that are available to you as a school leaver (and there are plenty).
- If you’re not a school leaver watch our videos about some of the programs on offer which can qualify you for entry into university. Learn more about OnTrack, a free 14 week free program that can be used to give you entry into Murdoch, or the Murdoch University Preparation Course which gives you qualifications for university entry if you don’t have an ATAR score.
