About Games Art & Design
The Bachelor of Digital Media in Games Art and Design will provide you with games art and design production skills valued by the games industry. You will graduate with hands on experience in concept art development, modeling, animation, level design and games engine application, sound production and project management.
Your ability to work closely with programmers and other related artists will be demonstrated alongside your industry skills as you work to produce a digital media show reel. This degree will cater for those with an artistic flair, or simply interested in the in the aesthetics of games.
What can I do with my Games Art & Design degree?
Australians spend $2 million dollars a day on video games, which is more than the film and television industry combined! Almost all Australian games companies are likely to expand in the next three years. With a Murdoch degree in Games Art & Design you will be qualified to work in jobs such as: Concept Artist, Animator, Technical Artist, Character Modeler, Game Designer (scriptwriter), Environmental Modeler, Character Animator, Game – Play Tester or Lighting Artist.

Recommended subjects
We don’t have prerequisite subjects for any of our courses as we are a strong promoter of a well rounded education. However, remember that you will also need to demonstrate competence in English, normally through passing either English or English Literature or by getting a sufficiently high score in ESL.
Course structure:
Year 1
Foundation Unit
All first year students are required to take a Foundation Unit. These are designed to provide you with the necessary skills to succeed at university.
Core Units
You must take core units for a particular major to gain a specialisation in that area:
- Introduction to Digital media
- Introduction to Games Art and Design
- Visual Communication
- Introduction to 3D Graphics and Animation
General Electives
You must take a selection of these units to have enough points to graduate. General electives give you the flexibility to learn from a variety of areas. Select four units offered by the University, subject to individual unit prerequisites.
Recommended double majors:
To take a double major, students simply take the core units from another major in place of their general elective units. Further details on double majors are available in the Prospectus.

- You can even complete a Double Degree with Games Technology, this takes 4 years.
