"We humans continue to develop technological capacity but we still have much to do to find ways to better understand and hence better conduct our social relationships.

"Social relationships that range from the personal and intimate, including even the manner in which we relate to each of our ownselves, through the myriad of relationships within and between various organisations to global, political, economic, cultural and environmental matters.

"I see sociology as a necessary aspect of any serious effort to grapple intelligently with these matters and I feel fortunate and privileged to have the opportunity to play a part in introducing others to sociological ideas."
