Senior Lecturer, Academic Chair, Physics & Nanotechnology

"In a way I was a bit of a late starter. I began my physics degree when I was 36. That just happened to be the right time in my life to do it. Before then I had been a shop assistant, diagnostic radiographer, high school lab technician, point picker for a geophysical airborne survey, office cleaner and in my less public life daughter, wife and mother. So I have looked at life from many sides now and I think that helps me understand where my students are coming from.

I really enjoy lectures... and labs... and tutorials. They all give me a chance to interact with my students and with the physics that I love. Physics has so many cool toys! From bubble wands to the Large Hadron Collider and everything in between. There is so much interesting "stuff" to play with, to investigate and think about.

It is an exciting time to be alive, there are so many opportunities opening up for people who understand energy and how to tap into the natural energy flowing through the Earth in a sustainable manner. Energy coming from the Sun, from the interior of the Earth and from the gravitational pull of the Moon can be used to do work as part of its journey around the world and out into space.

This is where my life has led me, to a place where I can facilitate students learning, so they can go on and do fantastic things with their lives, and bring about a future I can only read about in Science Fiction books."
