Meet Rebecca Tilbrook
I graduated from Murdoch Engineering in 2004 after completing a Bachelor of Engineering BE(Hons) in Renewable Energy.
Having moved from the Northern Territory to study at Murdoch, I was unsure of what was in store for me beyond the glossy brochures and online materials. I recall my first day on campus - the grounds were lovely, the buildings were modern and fitted with state-of-the-art equipment, and the staff were amazingly helpful and eager to help me settle in to my new life 3,000 kilometers away from my family.
During my four years of study, I came to realise just how special Murdoch was. Not only did it offer specialised engineering degrees such as Renewable Energy Engineering but the Engineering School had a unique community feel to it. The lecturers and staff were always there to support our learning and development. Their dedication to the students coupled with world-class facilities and relevant, applicable course materials instilled motivation and passion in our studies and in our future.
In my final year I was given the opportunity to undertake a six-month paid internship with the City of Rockingham, which was arranged and supported by Murdoch. During this time I was also offered a job with Hydro Tasmania, Australia's largest renewable energy generator, and move to Hobart after graduation. I am now working in Hong Kong for China Light & Power, one of Asia's largest energy companies, where I am helping to develop their renewable energy generation portfolio across the region.
I look back on my days at Murdoch and can see how the School's linkages with industry, its focus on the real-world requirements of engineering business and the expertise and dedication of its staff provided an exceptional launching pad for my career.
