Senior Lecturer, Engineering

"Electronic devices such as computers have radically changed the world we live in over the past 60 years. I have been deeply interested in electronics and computing since I was a teenager in the late 1970s. I have been lucky to work on many diverse research projects since completing postgraduate study nearly 20 years ago.

Becoming a capable engineer requires hard work over many years - perhaps a lifetime. Now as a university teacher I take great pleasure from sharing the knowledge that I have and guiding students along a path through their studies similar to my own. It is gratifying to see students develop confidence as they realise that they can actually achieve this, and mature as they prepare to move on from the university into a lifelong career."

Work

As a full time researcher for many years prior to starting teaching I have published extensively in collaboration with many interesting colleagues and past students in areas such as speech processing, pattern recognition, computer architectures and software engineering.
