Kirsty's Story

"Nothing is impossible, if you believe in yourself and set your mind to it, you can achieve whatever you wish to achieve..."

- Kirsty Ragazzo, Graduate, Bachelor of Nursing

We asked our nursing graduate to share her experiences at Murdoch....

  • What inspired you to become a Murdoch student?

"I applied for an entry scholarship at high school into Murdoch University for the nursing degree. The new School of Nursing and Midwifery had been developed in Mandurah and offered a good well structured program, also a bonus saving travel and expenses."
  • What kind of hands-on experience did you get as part of your studies?

"The Murdoch nursing program offers more practical time compared to other universities which suited me best, as hands-on experience helped me to link the theory I had been taught into practice."
  • What was your first degree-related job after you graduated? How did you apply your Murdoch experience?

"I am currently working at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in the graduate program. It has been a fantastic transition from student to registered nurse as Murdoch has well prepared me for the working world! I have had great support throughout my university career which has provided me with many good memories and experiences."
  • What are you passionate about?

"I am passionate about Nursing, human life is something we need to cherish and look after the best we can, I am very passionate about caring for people and learning new ways to provide safe practice."
  • What are you doing now?

"I am currently working full time at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital as a graduate Registered Nurse."
  • How does what you learned at Murdoch help you in your current career?

"All the study and hard work has paid off. I apply most information I have been taught into my daily work. I am constantly learning new things and attending regular study days and education sessions within the hospital. Murdoch has been a great grounding in my career and will always be a reference throughout my life."
  • What are you most proud of achieving since you left uni?

"I am very proud of getting into the graduate program at Charlies. I feel I am very lucky to have the support I do from the hospital and work with fellow graduates that I can relate my experiences to. I also feel very privileged to work with senior registered nurses and clinical nurses who are willing to teach and share their experiences and knowledge with me."
  • What is the most useful life lesson you learned at Murdoch that has nothing to do with your degree?

"Nothing is impossible, if you believe in yourself and set your mind to it, you can achieve whatever you wish to achieve."
  • How do you want to make a difference in the future?

"I hope to make a difference and help another persons’ future with the work that I do. I will make my way up in the nursing career, learn new areas, travel, progress to a clinical nurse and maybe one day teach future students."
  • What would be your advice to students choosing where and what to study at uni?

"Seek assistance and help where needed, there are great support networks throughout the university that can help you decide on what best suits you."
