Facilities available for Master of Science in Renewable Energy at Murdoch University

School facilities

Advanced facilities at Murdoch School of Engineering and Energy mean that you could be learning with real world facilities and equipment on a day to day basis.

All facilities are enhanced by exposure to modelling techniques implemented in a range of software environments including the Aspen suite, Labview and Matlab.

  • The Bayer Pilot Plant

Our nationally renowned Bayer Pilot Plant is an engineer’s playground (very few other universities in the world offer this type of facility).

It features a real-world engineering plant and equipment that is relevant to many of our engineering specialities, from instrumentation and control to industrial computer systems and more.

The plant includes advanced control systems using a modern industrial data acquisition and control platform.

The lab was launched as collaboration between Engineering at Murdoch University and industrial companies Alcoa of Australia, Honeywell, and Control and Thermal Engineering.

  • Instrumentation and Control Engineering Lab

We have world class facilities that are specifically designed and built for the Instrumentation and Control Engineering course.

These include an instrumentation and control laboratory that uses a modular station design. This means that you could be configuring a range of experiments using real world instrumentation, process equipment and data communication systems to investigate process dynamics and control techniques.

  • Systems Test Lab

Renewable Energy students have access to a range of renewable energy systems not only at the School of Engineering and Energy, but also at the Renewable Energy Systems Laboratory at the University’s Research Institute for Sustainable Energy (RISE).
These facilities include;
  • photovoltaic (PV)/wind/diesel/battery hybrid systems,
  • low temperature solar thermal systems,
  • a solar simulator for PV module tests,
  • a 10 kW PV trough concentrator system,
  • an educational PV water pumping system, and;
  • various grid connected PV systems - ours is currently the only NATA certified lab testing inverters and solar system components in Australia.
