Instrumentation and Control Engineering student work at Murdoch University

Instrumentation and Control students take control of Murdoch’s alumina refining pilot plant.

There is only so much you can learn from laboratory equipment.

Before jumping into real industrial plants, what better place to practice and develop your skills than a real world small scale pilot plant?

In the Instrumentation and Control course, you will get hands on exposure to industry standard SCADA control systems and face the daily challenges associated with maintaining and operating equipment, all the while building on teamwork and cooperation skills necessary to succeed in a large operation.

Below you can see Instrumentation and Control students learning about safety aspects of the operation and investigating real process dynamics.

About the pilot plant

The pilot plant facility is custom built and designed specifically for the Instrumentation and Control degree. The plant is used to learn about plant wide control, multivariable and model predictive control strategies as well as adaptive and fuzzy control techniques.

The plant must be operated safely and within its design parameters, but it has the flexibility to allow experimentation and investigation into real process dynamics and real control problems.
