Frances Barns - ImageFrances's story

Frances graduated with a Bachelor of Asian Studies for which she spent a year in Indonesia that included language study and field study on migrant domestic workers.

Frances was a Graduate intern at AusAID in 2000, and spent three years on the Indonesia desk managing projects in the health and regional development program. She was later posted to East Timor where she managed programs in the law & justice, community development, rural development and fisheries sectors.

After leaving AusAID in 2005 Frances has worked on a number of development projects. These included:

  • 2006 – Work with the action-research foundation, The Foundation for Development Cooperation, supporting migrant workers through IT enhanced remittance and micro-finance services.

  • 2007 - Work with the Ministry of Finance (East Timor) on the AusAID Ministry of Planning and Finance Capacity Building Program, recording and analysing the organisational structure, systems and processes within the Ministry of Finance.

  • 2008 - Work with the East Timor National Disaster Management Directorate (NDMD) managing an AusAID funded disaster management program.

  • 2009 - Work as the Indonesia Country Director for the World Bank East Asia Pacific Enterprise Survey (managed by Mekong Economics), which collects indicators on the business environment for World Bank client countries all over the world.
