Emma's story
Emma Graduated from Murdoch with a BA Law (Hons) and Bachelor of Asian Studies, which included a year studying in Indonesia as part of her degree.
Emma is currently working as Third Secretary (Political) for the Australian Embassy Jakarta. She monitors research and provides policy advice on environment, legal and economic governance in Indonesia. She also manages projects as part of Australia’s governance program in Indonesia.
Emma has previously worked as a member of the steering committee for the Amnesty International Legal Group (WA) where she researched human rights issues in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region between 2001 and 2004. She co-ordinated legal research teams and submitted reports regarding violations of international law in the Asia-Pacific region.
Her other international experience included a stint with Australian Volunteers International Youth Program, where Emma volunteered in a team with 10 other Australians at Bahay Tuluyan, a non-government organisation in the Philippines that works with street children.
As a paralegal in 2002 with the Indonesian Legal Aid group (LBH), Emma assisted in land claims, environment and human rights cases by researching and preparing claims, accompanying lawyers on field trips to communities, and participating in negotiation sessions with the government and private sector.
