The Centre for Advanced Veterinary Education - CAVE, together with Provet Vi bring a two-day practical Masterclass that will focus on understanding and performing TPLO surgery with locking implants.

Date: Friday 26th and Saturday 27th March 2021

Time: 8:30am - 5:00pm each day, followed by a Sundowner on Saturday

TPLO Workshop Flyer

This highly practical Masterclass will give participants the opportunity to develop and refine their skills in managing cruciate disease with TPLO.

The course will combine:

Interactive lectures

  • TPLO planning practicals
  • Plastic bone TPLO practicals
  • Cadaver practicals
  • Postoperative radiographic assessment practical
There will be 6 practical sessions over two days. Each participant will have the opportunity to plan, perform and review a TPLO surgery on plastic bone models and plan, perform and review a cadaver TPLO surgery.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the theory and principles behind the TPLO procedure
  • Measure tibial plateau angle and plan for TPLO using radiographs
  • Perform TPLO on plastic bone models and cadaveric bone
  • Learn how to perform the procedure with repeatable outcomes
  • Ability to assess post-operative TPLO radiographs
  • Perform soft tissue approach for TPLO in combination with a mini-medial arthrotomy
  • Develop familiarity with potential complications following cruciate surgery
Mark Glyde is Associate Professor in Small Animal Surgery and leads the orthopaedic and neurosurgery referral service at The Animal Hospital, Murdoch University. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Surgery, a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, holds a Masters degree in Veterinary Surgery and in an Australian, European and RCVS recognised specialist surgeon. Mark is an internationally recognised and rewarded teacher. He provides continuing education to veterinarians nationally and internationally and presents courses in Small Animal Orthopaedics in Europe, UK, USA, Latin America, throughout Asia and Australia.

A/Prof Mark Glyde

Lucas graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Queensland and immediately undertook a rotating internship here at QVS. Surgical internships then followed in Adelaide and Perth, part of which involved a tertiary qualification in adult education.
He undertook a residency in small animal surgery at Murdoch University whilst also completing a Master of Veterinary Surgery looking at the biomechanics of locking plates.
Lucas was accepted by examination as a Member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (Surgery chapter) in 2011. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons – Small Animal in 2015 and an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Orthopaedics in 2016. He has spent several years working in the Northwest of England prior to making the decision to return home to Brisbane. He has a broad array of surgical training and clinical experiences, enabling him to offer the very best to QVS clients. He is certified to perform Total Hip Replacements and has extensive experience in minimally invasive traumatology.
